6 Types of Hormones and How They Affect Your Health
Hormones. They get blamed for many negative health issues that we suffer from. But, there is a good reason. These chemicals send messages to various organs telling them what to do and therefore, manage systems such as metabolism, reproduction, and mood.
Now, how does each one affect your health?

ESTROGEN
In women, estrogen manages the reproductive system. Too much estrogen creates a risk of certain types of cancers, mental issues, and excess weight. Too little estrogen can lead to menstrual and fertility problems as well as changes in mood.
TESTOSTERONE
This hormone contributes to the male reproductive system. It is also responsible for fat distribution, muscle and bone health, and red blood cell count in both men and women. Excess testosterone in women can lead to facial hair, increased body fat, menstrual and fertility difficulties.
INSULIN
While this hormone has many roles, its most important one is taking the sugar you consume and transforming it so your body can use it for energy. If insulin levels are not healthy, you can be at greater risk for prediabetes, diabetes, and gestational diabetes.
PROGESTERONE
This critical hormone is essential for preparing a woman’s body for pregnancy. Too much progesterone has been linked to breast cancer, while too little can lead to irregularities in menstrual cycles and fertility.
CORTISOL
Cortisol, in the family of steroid hormones, is responsible for balancing your blood pressure, metabolism, and helps control inflammation. Since it is secreted while the body is under stress, too much cortisol for extended periods of time can cause high blood pressure, autoimmune issues, and sleep difficulties.
THYROID HORMONES
These special chemicals produced in the thyroid are essential for regulating your metabolism. Unhealthy amounts are associated with Grave’s Disease and Hashimotos.
